As March 15th passed, Equal Pay Day, this article was published by CBS News. Women situated in the US who worked full time were paid 83 cents to every dollar that men made according to information from 2020. This is much greater compared to overseeing all women workers which made an average of 73 cents for every dollar that men made.
This is also different compared to what women of color made to white men. So, here goes:
- white women to white men - 79 cents to every dollar.
- black women to white men - 64 cents to every dollar
- Latina and Native American women to white men - 57 cents to every dollar
Jasmine Tucker, who is the director of research at the National Women's Law Center, pointed out that this might not always seem like a lot of money but it adds up to "10s of thousands of dollars a year."
These are the statistics for a 40-year career for women and how much they lose:
- Asian women - 3,000 dollars a year (120,000 over 40 years)
- White women - 14,000 dollars a year (555,000 over 40 years)
- Black women - 24,000 dollars a year (976,000 over 40 years)
- Native American women - 27,000 dollars a year (1 million over 40 years)
- Latina women - 29,000 dollars a year (1.1 million over 40 years)
The Women's Policy Research found that this is noticed among almost all occupations. It is also found that the wage gap has not changed a lot since 1994, even though women have gained advanced education, often surpassing men. However, these women are still often gaining less than men with bachelor's degrees. The gender wage gap also increases for women over 45 years of age.
