Can Women Earn More Than Men?

Actually, yes! In a new research, it is proven that women can, in fact, earn more than men.

The study was conducted in 2017 and is called "The Annual Equilar/Associated Press CEO Pay Study. This research shows that both the median and mean average pay of women CEOs is higher than this of men -- "the median compensation for female CEOs was $13,093,444, and the average was $14,488,643. Meanwhile, male CEOs had a median compensation of $11,376,284 and an average of $12,648,010," say Press CEO Pay Study informants. The study was conducted on people that performed the same job for two consecutive years.

On the other hand, the study was difficult to conduct because of the extreme ratio of men to women. The men that were part of the research were 346, while the women were only 21. This disproves of the statement made by Kristen Bellstrom that CEO positions know no gender and are a safe haven for gender equality. This study though, proves otherwise.

While the highest paid [man] CEO earned nearly 99 million, the highest paid woman CEO earned an approximation of 32 million.

Overall, taking into consideration the other data from the study, the CEO wage gap favors men. With the research of the Institute for Women's Policy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that full-time chief executives that are women earn only 79.5% of what men do.

This can change! Firms like S&P 500 have started the Equilar Pay and are trying to equal the pay and reduce the wage gap. For now, it is considered that bigger companies that need to disclose data about the salaries of both genders, might consider equal pay. Smaller businesses may be the current problem.

Not only is it hard for women to pass barriers and get to where they are -- CEO positions or others -- they also need to fight the wage gap barrier.

For now, advocating and disclosing such information might be the best chance that women have in fighting this ongoing problem! Stay tuned for more information!
